Fuzhou

The city of Fuzhou is located on the eastern coast of China and is the capital of the Fujian province. Fuzhou is also known as the Banyan Town after the numerous subtropical banyan trees planted around the city since the Song dynasty. It's a fairly wealthy city as it is ranked 21st out of the 659 chinese cities. The exact date of settlement is unknown but researchers estimate it was between 300-400 BC. For many years the Fuzhou dialect has been used to communicate between people. Due to Fuzhou's proximity to Taiwan, and linguistic and ethical closeness, many investments between the two have made Fuzhou one of the most prosperous cities in China.

Quite frequently the administratition divisions have changed. In the 1980's Fuzhou had 5 districts, now another district has been added as well as many counties being promoted to county-level cities. The reason for this is the rise in population in Fuzhou. Just over 7 million people currently live in the city. With the increase in population, many new schools had to be built. Many Universities that specify in certain professions such as Agriculture, Technology, and Medicine were created.

As for tourism, Fuzhou has many temples that can be visited any time of the year. Some of these temples date back as far as 527 AD and are full of ancient artifacts. Another main attraction is the West Lake which is an artificial lake that was built in 282 AD. To suit the outdoorsy type, the Drum Mountain and Fuzhou National Forest Park is availiable to roam. There is only one way of air transportaion availiable and that is the Fuzhou Changle International Airport. The airport is fairly busy with right at 4 million passengers annually.Fuzhou is the largest city in and capital of Fujian province.

On November 8, 1911, Fuzhou is the place where the new China revolution started.
